Pastor accused of raping 14-year-old church member faces witness protection request

The prosecution in the case against Abuja pastor Mr Isah has asked the FCT High Court to allow the 14-year-old alleged rape victim to testify via video link or behind a screen. The trial is set to begin on 13 October, with the judge, Modupe Osho-Adebiyi, reportedly keen to conclude the matter quickly.

Mr Isah, founder of Prophetic Voice of Fire Ministry International, is facing eight counts including rape, child abduction, and sexual exploitation. The prosecution argues that requiring the minor to testify in open court could cause further psychological trauma and expose her to public ridicule.

The court has also been asked to ban publication of the child's name or any identifying information. With the defendant out on a N50 million bail, the question remains whether these protective measures will be enough to ensure justice for a vulnerable child.
