Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji Arrested Over Fake UNN Degree and NYSC Certificate

Former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, was arrested yesterday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja upon his return to Nigeria. The ICPC confirmed that a bench warrant from the Federal High Court led to his detention, with assistance from the DSS.

The commission stated that Nnaji had ignored multiple invitation letters sent to his addresses in Abuja and Enugu, as well as his email, since May 15. The court order, issued on June 11, authorized his arrest over allegations of forging a degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a false NYSC discharge certificate submitted during his 2023 ministerial screening.

So a man tasked with overseeing science and technology innovation in this country may have faked his own academic credentials. What does that say about the vetting process for our leaders?
