Eastern Obolo residents now know how to demand gas flare money , this is big

So PEER Foundation just trained our people for Eastern Obolo on how to demand gas flare funds for environmental remediation. Mfon Gabriel, the Executive Director, said many host communities have been excluded from conversations on gas flare revenues even though they bear the environmental consequences. Eastern Obolo alone hosts nine oil assets operated by companies like Seplat, Total Energies, Sterling Oil, Amni International, and ExxonMobil.

The workshop taught them the legal frameworks governing gas flare payments from 2021 to 2025. This is serious because oil companies' gas flaring in Akwa Ibom is causing blindness and reproductive health issues. Our people need to know that these funds are provided for under the law for environmental restoration and social relief.

I just hope the community members will use this knowledge to hold these companies accountable. We cannot keep suffering while they keep flaring gas and destroying our land.
