The family of Ahmed Mohammed, a Permanent Commissioner of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, has paid N40 million in ransom to his abductors β€” and now the terrorists are demanding an additional N300 million before releasing him. Ahmed was kidnapped on September 29, 2025 along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area while travelling to Minna for an official assignment, just before the November 1 local government elections. A family member told Daily Trust that the kidnappers called again on Monday to ask if the family was ready to meet the new demand, but they simply cannot raise that amount.

The family member said, β€œThey call almost every day. It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that they did not call. They requested for additional N300 million. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release. He was kidnapped while on an official engagement of the Niger State Government.” This is now nine months since the abduction, and the family is desperate. The state government has not yet responded publicly to the appeal.
