I was scrolling through my explore page yesterday and I stumbled on a video of a guy proposing to his girlfriend at the Chicken Republic in Ikeja. Not even the one in Lekki, the Ikeja one. She was holding a tray of jollof rice and pepper chicken when he brought out the ring. She dropped the tray to cover her mouth and the rice scattered everywhere. The restaurant workers were clapping. One woman was recording with her mouth open.

My guy spent N15k on a ring from that Instagram page that sells 'quality affordable engagement rings' and thought the Chicken Republic ambiance was giving romance. The bride price negotiation will happen in the same spot. The wedding reception will be in the parking lot. I can't with this generation. The audacity to propose where people are trying to eat their lunch abeg.

Anyway, the video has 2 million views and the caption says 'she said yes'. So maybe I am the problem. Maybe love really is finding someone who will say yes at the Chicken Republic counter. God when?
