Uche Nnaji finally arrested over forged UNN certificate

The former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday after months of dodging ICPC invitations. A Federal High Court had ordered his arrest after he failed to show up for questioning about the forged University of Nigeria Nsukka degree and NYSC discharge certificate he submitted to President Tinubu and the Senate in 2023. The ICPC now has a 14-day remand warrant to detain him for interrogation.

What is most disturbing is that UNN's vice-chancellor already confirmed in writing that Nnaji was admitted in 1981 but never graduated and was never issued a certificate. NYSC also disowned the discharge certificate he presented. He resigned three days after PREMIUM TIMES published the investigation in October last year, yet he has spent months trying to block the university from releasing his records and even filed an appeal against the arrest order. Now that he is in custody, will the system finally hold him accountable or will this become another case of a powerful man walking free?
