APC is sleepwalking into another Zamfara disaster
4 months ago
Cletus Obun, a chieftain of the APC, has warned that the party is heading for a major electoral shock if it ignores INEC’s warning on candidate substitution. He spoke on ARISE NEWS today and he did not hold back. He said the party must present only aspirants who actually participated in the primaries, not people who were screened out and then suddenly qualified without explanation.
Obun reminded everyone that the Zamfara case was a painful lesson. APC won all the elections there and the courts threw them out because of procedural failures. He said, “You cannot make one error twice unless there is something behind it.” He also pointed out that the documents from the screening and primary process are public records. Opposition parties will use them against APC in election petitions if the party does not do proper due diligence.
What I find interesting is that Obun is not some opposition mole. He is an APC chieftain. He is saying this publicly. That means the rot inside the party is so obvious that even loyal members are sounding the alarm. So the question is: will the party leadership listen, or will they wait until another court judgment wipes out their victories? Be honest. Do you think APC will learn from Zamfara or repeat the same mistake?
