Soldiers invaded Osun varsity hostels, assaulted and raped students - Peter Obi demands probe
4 months ago
Peter Obi has called for a thorough investigation into allegations that soldiers invaded students' hostels at Osun State University, Osogbo, where students were allegedly assaulted, robbed, and female students subjected to sexual abuse, including rape. In a statement posted on his official page on July 2, 2026, Obi expressed deep concern over the reports, saying: 'I have read with deep concern the troubling reports of soldiers invading students' hostels at Osun State University, Osogbo, during which students were allegedly assaulted, humiliated, dispossessed of their personal belongings, and female students subjected to degrading treatment, including rape.'
Obi noted that the Armed Forces are renowned for their discipline and sacrifice, not for such barbarity against the citizens they are sworn to protect. He urged the military high command to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation and ensure anyone found culpable is brought to justice. The question remains: who ordered this invasion, and how far up does the chain of command go?
