Court Orders Final Forfeiture of N150m Linked to Delta Rep Nicholas Mutu

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of N150 million linked to serving House of Representatives member Nicholas Mutu to the Federal Government. Justice J.O. Abdulmalik delivered the ruling after the EFCC successfully argued that the funds were proceeds of corruption.

The EFCC told the court that its investigation connected the money to alleged kickbacks Mutu collected while serving as chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission. The anti-graft agency claims the lawmaker received over N400 million in kickbacks from an NDDC consultant, with N150 million of that amount now permanently seized.

Why is a sitting lawmaker receiving this kind of money from NDDC contracts? And what happens to the remaining N250 million the EFCC says he collected? The court ordered the forfeiture published in a national newspaper, but no one came forward to claim the funds. That silence speaks volumes.
