The IGP just warned Osun politicians and that election is already looking shaky

The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, went to Osun State yesterday and told political parties to stop instigating violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He met Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo and later held a meeting with parties at the state police headquarters. The fact that the IGP had to personally travel to Osun and issue this warning tells me the security agencies already know what is coming.

Governor Adeleke responded by saying he does not condone criminality and that security agencies should arrest anyone found culpable, including members of his own family. That is a strong statement from a sitting governor, and I respect him for it. But let us be honest — these pre-election warnings have become routine in Nigeria. The IGP warns, politicians promise peace, and then on election day people still get killed and ballot boxes get snatched.

Osun is a state with history. We remember what happened in 2022 when the police were accused of taking sides. Now with the election only weeks away, I am watching closely to see if the IGP will back his words with action. If a politician or his thugs disrupt the process, will they actually be arrested and prosecuted? Or will it be business as usual? Be honest with yourselves.
