N24 Billion for a Fake Agency? Gbajabiamila Must Step Aside Now
4 months ago
Femi Falana has dropped a bombshell that should make every Nigerian angry. He is asking President Tinubu's Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to step aside and allow a proper investigation into the PFIPC fraud scandal. This is the same agency that somehow got N24 billion budgeted for it without even existing as a legal entity.
Falana raised questions that we all need answers to. How did an agency that is not created by any law find its way into the Appropriation Act? How did it get an office in the Federal Secretariat and open accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria? The Head of Service even posted about 300 staff to this non-existent body. If this is not a massive failure of governance I don't know what is.
The National Assembly must explain how this happened under their watch. Section 81 of the Constitution is clear that appropriation bills come from the Executive. So who inserted this phantom agency into the budget? Gbajabiamila should do the honourable thing and step aside. If a conman can fool the Presidency into issuing appointment letters and the CBN into opening accounts then this government is truly kidding itself. How did we get here?
