US Congressman says America will monitor our 2027 elections closely

So a US Congressman named Riley Moore from West Virginia has openly said the United States will be watching Nigeria's 2027 elections like a hawk. He gave an interview to NoireTV and made it clear that both the Trump administration and members of Congress will pay very close attention to how we conduct our polls. This is not just talk — he said there is an appropriations bill before the House with specific provisions about Nigeria, including religious freedom and security assistance.

Moore is co-sponsoring the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026 with Congressman Chris Smith. He said the bill has strong language about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria and conditions that could affect American security assistance to our government. He even claimed he is having dinner with President Trump tonight to discuss these issues further. The House Appropriations Committee already approved provisions that would withhold 50% of certain foreign assistance until the US certifies we are taking effective steps to curb religious violence and investigate attacks.

Now I am a lawyer and I understand international relations but this is deeply troubling. A foreign government is openly conditioning its support on how we treat our own citizens and run our elections. We should be able to conduct free and fair elections without external threats. But the reality is that our government has given them reason to doubt us. So my question is simple — should we be offended by this interference or should we accept that we have brought it upon ourselves?
