IMF Exposes Nigeria's Hidden Public Spending — Sam Amadi Speaks

The International Monetary Fund has revealed that Nigeria omitted public expenditure equivalent to two per cent of its GDP from recent budgets, and Sam Amadi, the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has confirmed what many of us have suspected for years. Appearing on Arise Television on Sunday, Amadi stated plainly that this government does not have a transparent or accountable public expenditure system. He cited the FCT Minister asking to be exempted from due process procurement policies as the first sign of trouble.

The Federal Government has dismissed these claims, insisting that all expenditures were made within the constitutional framework. But when has that ever stopped them? Amadi's central point is that fiscal accountability is about process — expenditure must be budgeted for, tracked, and reported. If two per cent of GDP can disappear without proper documentation, what else is hidden?

This is not a small matter. Two per cent of Nigeria's GDP is a significant sum that could have been directed to education, healthcare, or infrastructure. Instead, it is unaccounted for. Sam Amadi has put the question directly to the government: where is the integrity in our public spending? We deserve an answer.
