Protesters storm Senate over Tinubu's ambassadorial nominee with sexual misconduct allegations

Protesters from the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations stormed the Senate wing today demanding that the red chamber reject Abayomi Fasina's nomination as a non-career ambassador. Fasina is the outgoing VC of FUOYE and a professor of Soil Science. President Tinubu sent his name to the Senate on June 24.

The convener Amirah Adeyemo said they are not asking the Senate to determine guilt but to delay confirmation until the legal process is concluded. She warned they would petition the country where Fasina is nominated to serve if the Senate goes ahead. "Our call to the Senate is clear, let no one who has such a grave allegation against them, such as sexual misconduct, go forward to represent our country," she told newsmen.

This is the kind of thing that makes you wonder what vetting process these nominations go through. A man facing allegations of sexual misconduct being considered to represent Nigeria abroad. The Senate cannot just wave this through.
