I caught my wife's pastor doing something I can't even type

My daughter, she is a lawyer in Lagos. Two years ago she came home to Ibadan for the weekend and she looked troubled. I asked her what is wrong and she said nothing at first. But I know my child. Later that night she sat me down in the parlour and said, Baba, I need to tell you something.

She said her church pastor, Reverend Adeyemi from that big white cathedral on Ring Road, had been calling her late at night. At first it was about prayer and counselling. Then it became about her marriage. He told her her husband was not praying enough, that she needed spiritual covering. Then he started asking her to come to his house for private deliverance sessions. My daughter said she felt something was wrong but she did not want to be disrespectful to a man of God.

I looked at her and I said, My daughter, the Yoruba say a child who washes his hands clean eats with elders. But if an elder has dirty hands, the child must walk away. I told her to change church immediately. She did. That pastor is still there preaching every Sunday. I have not told anyone this story because people will say I am hating against the church. But the fear of God is not the same thing as the fear of a pastor. Many men hide behind the collar.
