Senate Wants Tinubu to Stop Boko Haram Reintegration Immediately

Z

So yesterday the Senate told President Tinubu to halt the rehabilitation and reintegration of former Boko Haram members into society. Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua sponsored the motion, and Joseph Ikpea added the prayer to stop the program, saying it has become a source of national concern. Adams Oshiomhole backed it, calling the policy illogical when victims of terrorism and families of fallen soldiers are still suffering.

They also observed a minute silence for late Major General Rabe Abubakar and others killed by terrorists. The chamber wants tougher measures — prosecution instead of rehabilitation, better intelligence, drones, and community involvement. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau tried to balance things by saying our military has been successful in decimating criminal elements and deserve support.

But honestly, this rehabilitation policy has always felt off to me. You cannot tell a mother whose son was killed by Boko Haram that the same people are now being trained and sent back into society. What kind of message does that send to our security forces risking their lives every day?
