Atiku just exposed Tinubu's ICPC probe as a sham
4 months ago
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has rejected President Tinubu's directive to the ICPC to investigate the PFIPC scandal, calling instead for an independent commission of inquiry. In a statement from his aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku made it clear that anything less than a genuinely independent probe will leave Nigerians with the impression that the government is investigating itself behind closed doors.
Atiku's logic is sharp here. He pointed out that if the police had already investigated this matter thoroughly, why is another investigation necessary? And if another investigation is now necessary, then the earlier one was clearly insufficient. He also questioned how an organisation the Presidency insists never existed managed to acquire office accommodation, interact with government institutions, operate multiple bank accounts, and project the authority of government over an extended period.
The man is asking the right questions. The 30-day timeline given to the ICPC is also suspect. If the case has already been investigated, Nigerians should get answers within days, not another month. The question now is whether Tinubu will accept this challenge or continue to play games with our collective intelligence. Am I the only one that thinks Atiku has a point here?
