Two years ago, I got a call from my bank manager. He say my business account wey get investor money don dey funny. I check and my heart drop. Tunde, my partner since secondary school, don transfer over 12 million naira to different accounts over six months. The money we supposed use buy tractors and pay farmers for the new season. I confront am at his house in Kano. He start crying, say he get gambling problem, say he borrow from the wrong people. I just stand there looking at am. 8 years of friendship. 8 years of building Northern AgroConnect together. The worst part? The farmers we promise payment to. I had to call every single one and tell dem sorry. I sold my car, my jewelry, everything to cover the gap. Tunde never pay back. But you know wetin? That experience teach me to trust but verify. Now I have three different people check every account. No one person get access alone. The business stronger now. But I still feel the pain sometimes.
