APC Holding El-Rufai Until After 2027 Elections – ADC Drops Bombshell

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Party (ADC), has come out openly to say what many of us have been suspecting. In an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, he stated that the APC government is deliberately keeping former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody until after the 2027 elections. He said the government knows that if El-Rufai is freed, the opposition becomes stronger and he will remind them of things they would rather forget.

Abdullahi said El-Rufai is being held on bailable offences but the conditions set for bail are deliberately impossible to meet. He called El-Rufai a political prisoner. He also warned that if anything happens to El-Rufai in detention due to his failing health, President Bola Tinubu will be held personally responsible. El-Rufai was recently at the National Hospital and doctors advised he be kept under watch because his health is deteriorating.

So here is the question we must all ask ourselves. If El-Rufai is being prosecuted for alleged financial misconduct and wire-tapping, why not just grant him bail with reasonable conditions like any other Nigerian? Why is the government dragging this out in a way that keeps him locked up indefinitely? The ADC has said it clearly. The APC is afraid of what El-Rufai will do if he is free before the 2027 elections. Who is really afraid of whom here?
