Peter Obi death threat: NHRC finally speaks and it is not looking good
4 months ago
The National Human Rights Commission has finally broken its silence on Peter Obi's claim that he may not live to contest the 2027 elections. The Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu, appeared on Arise TV on Friday and said the statement is deeply worrisome and should be taken seriously. He even said he called his team immediately after hearing it to ask what their response should be.
Ojukwu also raised the legitimate concern about whether the opposition has enough space to operate in this country. He talked about freedom of expression, access to information, and the shrinking civic space as elections draw closer. This is a man who heads the NHRC, so when he says these things, it is not just casual talk.
Some people will say Peter Obi is crying wolf or playing the victim. But when the Rights Commission itself says the threat is real and the opposition space is shrinking, what else do we need to hear? Are we waiting for something to happen before we take it seriously? Be honest, what is your take on this whole situation?
