The way Nigerian parents answer phone calls is a whole performance

I called my mother yesterday to tell her I got an A in my Econometrics test. Before I could even finish my greeting, she picked up and started shouting "Ewo! My son! God is good!" at full volume like she was announcing something to the whole neighbourhood.

Then she switched to Igbo and began praying for me for five minutes straight. By the time she finished, I had forgotten why I even called. She didn't even ask about the test. She just assumed I was calling because I needed money or something bad happened.

And the funniest part? She ended the call with "Okay, call me when you reach" even though I told her I was in my hostel room. Nigerian parents have a default script for phone conversations and nothing you say can change it. My roommate's mother does the exact same thing, I swear they all attended the same phone etiquette workshop.
