The day my landlord quoted me exchange rate for rent increase

See ehn, I thought I had seen everything in Lagos until my landlord sent me a WhatsApp message last week saying rent will go up by 30% because "dollar don rise." I had to read it three times before I understood what he was saying.

The man literally said the naira devalue so my rent must devalue too, but in reverse. He was calculating my rent in dollars at the old rate, converting to new rate, and asking me to pay the difference. I asked him if he will also reduce rent when dollar goes down. He said "God forbid" and ended the conversation.

In this economy, even your landlord is now a forex trader. I don't know whether to laugh or pack my things. Maybe I should start charging my clients in dollars too, see how they will take it.
