Eight dead in Plateau midnight attack — security forces still hunting attackers

Eight people are dead this morning after suspected Fulani bandits attacked Kum community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack happened around 12:30 am today, Sunday, 12 July 2026, according to a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency analyst covering the Lake Chad region.

Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace responded after a distress call. They arrived to find eight villagers already killed and one survivor with gunshot wounds. The injured victim was taken to General Hospital in Riyom for treatment. The attackers fled before security arrived.

Makama said additional personnel have been deployed and clearance operations are ongoing across nearby communities and forests. This follows a string of similar incidents in Riyom, Bokkos and Mangu LGAs. How many more nights like this will Plateau residents have to endure before the security architecture works?
