Remi Tinubu telling Burna Boy to help the poor is peak irony
4 months ago
I saw the story where Remi Tinubu told Burna Boy, Davido, and Asake that a Maybach is good but they can still help the poor. My brother, I nearly dropped my phone. The same system that has been squeezing ordinary Nigerians dry now wants entertainers to be the ones fixing the gap.
Look, I get it. Our celebrities drive cars worth N150m plus. Burna Boy's Maybach is probably around $200,000, that's like N272m at current rate of N1,360 to a dollar. Davido and Asake too living large. But the people telling them to help the poor are the same ones who have been in power for years. If every governor in Nigeria drops N500m monthly like Isaac Fayose suggested, that's N18bn a month for the poor. That would actually move something.
But nobody is asking them. Instead they look at the young men who used music to escape poverty and say, oya now, carry the country. I am not against charity, I give to my village people and support my sister's school fees. But the math is not matching. The people who control the money are pointing at the people who just started making money. No be so?
