Wike's PDP faction uploads Sandy Onor as presidential candidate to INEC portal

The faction of the PDP loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Sandy Onor, and his running mate Babangida Umaru to the INEC candidate nomination portal. This is a significant move because access to that portal often indicates which faction INEC recognises for administrative purposes.

Abdulrahman Mohammed, the faction's National Chairman, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, saying it shows the party will participate in the 2027 elections. This comes just days after Wike himself said the PDP cannot win 2027 unless it rebuilds its internal structures — yet here he is, backing a candidate while also pledging to support President Tinubu's re-election. The contradiction is hard to ignore.

Meanwhile, the rival faction led by Kabiru Turaki had nominated former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate, though Jonathan never publicly accepted. So which PDP actually goes to the polls in 2027?
