Makinde invites UN to probe Oyo school abduction — what is he hiding?
Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday called on the United Nations and international human rights bodies to investigate the abduction of 39 schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. This is not a small move. When a state governor invites foreign scrutiny of a domestic security failure, you have to ask what he knows that we do not.
Makinde said in his broadcast that the circumstances of this 56-day captivity are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent review. He paid tribute to teachers Joel Adesiyan, John-Olaleye, and Michael Oyedokun, whose execution was captured on video by the abductors. Soldiers, hunters, and Amotekun personnel also died during the rescue. The governor insists this is not about politics but about justice for the victims.
But here is the question nobody is asking loudly enough: if the federal government controls security, why is Makinde bypassing them and going directly to the UN? What institutional failure or collusion is he hinting at when he calls for accountability regardless of office, influence, or affiliation? The Nigerian people deserve a full transparent account of what happened during those 56 days. Who is afraid of that truth?
