Senate rejects probe of ₦1.3bn fake agency again — this is shameful
4 months ago
The Senate has once again rejected a motion to investigate how ₦1.3 billion was allocated to a completely fake agency called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council in the 2026 budget. Senator Kawu Sumaila from Kano South sponsored the motion but it was shot down through voice votes on Wednesday.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said they cannot probe it because the matter is already in court and the presidency has set up its own investigation. But Senator Sumaila argued that since the Senate approved the budget where this fake agency got money, they cannot just wash their hands of it. The man accused of forging documents to create this agency, Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested but the Senate is hiding behind legal technicalities.
This is the second time they have blocked this probe. The House of Representatives is investigating but the Senate is running from accountability. How does ₦1.3 billion get allocated to a non-existent agency and nobody at the top is asking serious questions?
