APC diaspora chapters declared illegal by court

FCT High Court in Abuja yesterday dissolved all APC chapters abroad, including the UK one. Judge Peter Kekemeke ruled that the party has no legal power to establish branches outside Nigeria.

The court ordered APC to transfer over N30 million from sale of forms to INEC. Judge said the party cannot raise funds outside Nigeria. Any group operating diaspora chapter commits an offence punishable by N5 million fine and imprisonment.

INEC brought this suit. The ruling settles the long argument about diaspora chapters. Nigerians abroad can still support candidates but parties cannot have official branches there. This one will affect how parties campaign for 2027.
