The Action Peoples Party has released a statement condemning what they describe as an invasion of a Town Hall Meeting organised by the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Owerri on Tuesday. According to their publicity secretary, Steve Nnadi, a viral video shows an aide to Governor Hope Uzodimma, along with alleged political thugs, chasing participants away from the venue at Umuoyima Community.

The party claims several people were injured and some had to be rushed to the hospital. This incident comes just days after a similar disruption involving their own House of Assembly candidate for Ideato North, Mbadiwe Ogugua, in Arondizuogu. You begin to see a pattern here.

APP is calling on the Governor to rein in his appointees and on the Commissioner of Police to investigate and prosecute those responsible. The question I keep asking myself is this: if a state government cannot allow a peaceful opposition meeting to hold, what exactly is the point of talking about 2027 elections being free and fair?
