Malami loses 48 properties worth N180.4bn to EFCC forfeiture

Yesterday, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of 48 properties worth N180.4 billion linked to former Attorney General Abubakar Malami. Judge Joyce Abdulmalik granted the EFCC's application after ruling that Malami and his co-respondents failed to prove the assets were legitimately acquired.

The evidence showed Malami earned only N89.7 million as salary during his eight years as minister, plus N12 million severance, yet he acquired hotels, a university, malls, and residential houses across Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Birnin-Kebbi. The judge noted he once declared his personal assets as N41 million and monthly net income as N397,000 to a bank. How does a man earning less than N90 million in eight years come to own assets worth over N180 billion? Someone needs to explain this properly.
