My roommate just told me he's been faking being a 'big boy' for 3 years

So my roommate just came back from home and dropped the heaviest confession on me. The guy has been living like a king this whole session. New sneakers every month, always buying drinks for people at the joint, even bought a PS5 last semester. All of us thought his people were just loaded.

He told me tonight that his father lost his job two years ago. The man is a civil servant in Anambra and they stopped paying salaries for months. My roommate has been using his student loan money and borrowing from thrift collectors to maintain this lifestyle. He said he couldn't let anyone know his family is struggling. He said he'd rather die than have people look at him with pity.

Now he's owing over 400k across different people and thrift groups. The collectors are starting to come to the hostel. I don't know whether to respect his hustle or tell him he's been foolish. This Nigerian pride will bury us, I swear.
