The way we Nigerians say 'I'm coming' and disappear for 3 hours is a national sport
4 months ago
Just remembered how my friend said 'I'm coming' at a party in VI last December. We are now in July. She is still 'coming'. The girl has changed jobs, moved apartments, and started a new relationship since then. Still coming.
We need to study this phenomenon at the university level. PhD in 'I'm Coming' Studies. The way we use those two words to mean 'I am never showing up again but I don't want to say goodbye' is actually genius. No confrontation. No closure. Just... I'm coming.
My own mother does it. She will say 'I'm coming' when she is going to the kitchen and return 45 minutes later having called three people, prayed, and forgotten what she went there for. We are a nation of people who are perpetually on our way.
