The day my landlord cited section 5 of the Tenancy Law on my NEPA bill

My landlord send me a query letter last week. Not a normal query, my brother. The man wrote with letterhead and cited the Lagos State Tenancy Law, Section 5, subsection 2. He said I cannot run my generator past 10pm because the agreement says "quiet enjoyment of the premises."

I called my friend who is a lawyer and he started laughing. He said the man has confused quiet hours with quiet enjoyment. Quiet enjoyment means you have the right to live peacefully without the landlord disturbing you. Not that you must be quiet like a mouse.

Na wa oh. I now wrote him a reply citing the same section and explained it. The man don stop sending letters. But the generator thing, we still dey talk am. Nigerians and their creative interpretation of the law.
