World Bank says 70% of us are poor. My cousin in London says otherwise.

So World Bank just drop another report. Over 70% of Nigerians are poor despite all these reforms they keep talking about. I read it this morning while my data was buffering because I couldn't afford the 5G plan. The irony is not lost on me.
But here's the thing that got me thinking. My cousin in London, Tunde, he called me yesterday. He's been sending money home every month for two years now. He said he's tired. Tired of working double shifts, tired of the cold, tired of people asking him when he's going back. He said 'Deji, I'm coming home next month. I'll start a small business in Ikeja.' I just laughed. I said 'Bros, you've been gone too long. You forgot how things work here.'
See ehn, the World Bank numbers are real. But the real poverty is not just about money. It's about how we keep looking for solutions outside while the problem is right here. Tunde thinks he can escape the statistics by coming back. I want to believe him. But 70% is 70%. That's a lot of people. Me included, abi? Shey you dey see am?
