Sam Amadi is right: Buhari's return was our national tragedy

Political analyst Dr. Sam Amadi posted on his X handle yesterday that bringing Buhari back to power in 2015 was probably the worst thing done to this country. He said all who participated in that tragedy should at least say they are sorry. I have been thinking about this since I read it and I cannot find a single reason to disagree with him.

Look at what we are seeing now. EFCC is prosecuting Godwin Emefiele, Abubakar Malami, Ahmed Idris, Hadi Sirika, Saleh Mamman, Yahaya Bello. These are people who served under Buhari. The allegations involve corruption, money laundering, contract fraud running into hundreds of billions of naira. This is not a small thing. This is systemic failure that started from the top.

Some people will say Buhari fought corruption. But if his own appointees are now being prosecuted for stealing billions, what exactly did he fight? We cannot keep pretending that 2015 was a victory for Nigeria. It was a setback that we are still paying for. Be honest, how many of us voted for him because we believed the change mantra? How many of us ignored the warning signs?
