My body warned me but I was too busy to listen
4 months ago
Last month I collapsed in my office. Just fell down like a sack of rice. My assistant she start screaming, call my husband, they rush me to hospital.
The doctor say my blood pressure is through the roof. I ask him how, I am not even 40 yet. He look at me and say, madam when last you sleep proper? When last you eat food wey no come from a meeting? I could not answer him.
Here is the thing. We women we think say we must do everything. Run company, run home, raise pikin, manage husband, attend events. We forget say this body get limit. My father used to tell me, Amina, rest is not laziness. I never understand until I woke up on that hospital bed with drip in my hand.
Now I force myself to stop by 8pm. No calls, no emails, just quiet. The work will still be there tomorrow. But you might not.
