Peter Obi says Tinubu is tired and should retire. Is he wrong?
Peter Obi went on Channels TV this Sunday and told Seun Okinbaloye that President Tinubu is tired and should step aside before 2027. He said the Bola Tinubu that governed Lagos is not the one in Aso Rock today. Obi said the man lacks the capacity to handle the economic and security crises we are facing. And honestly, when I look at the numbers, I am struggling to disagree with him.
The World Bank says 79% of Nigerians will face poverty. That is over 180 million people out of 230 million. The World Food Programme says 35 million Nigerians will face hunger. Obi mentioned these figures on live television and asked why nobody is talking about them. Instead we are busy praising a president for doing his best when his best is clearly not enough. Obi even acknowledged Donald Trump commending Tinubu on security but said we need to do far more. 40 people abducted in Zamfara on Wednesday, 50 on Thursday. That is not a country that is working.
I know some people will say Obi is just positioning for 2027. That he is bitter because he lost. But the man said something that stuck with me. He said he is not desperate to be president, he is desperate to see Nigeria work. He said if someone else can do it better, he will support them. That is not the talk of a desperate politician. That is the talk of someone who has seen the direction we are heading and is scared. So let me ask you this. If Tinubu is not tired, why are we getting these results? Be honest.
