Oshiomhole just dropped a truth bomb about naira redesign and Obi's Lagos win
3 months ago
I just finished watching the interview Adams Oshiomhole granted on TVC on Monday, and I must say, the man made some very interesting points about the 2023 elections. He claimed that the naira redesign policy under former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele was what made Peter Obi defeat President Bola Tinubu in Lagos state.
Oshiomhole said, and I quote directly from him: "I have said this but many people may not agree. Obi was produced by an unusual situation. When a ruling party decided to destroy itself as to make anybody running election on its platform unelectable. It is that confusion that brought those votes to Peter Obi." He went further to describe the policy as a "crazy" attempt to choke and suffocate the system, saying people could not access their own money from banks, queued all night for just 10,000 naira at ATMs, and then had to queue again for fuel. The senator recalled one statement from a frustrated citizen: "Why will you queue all night to withdraw 5000? Then you go and queue for two nights to get 10 liters of PMS and then those people expect that on election day, you will queue to vote for them?"
Whether you agree with Oshiomhole or not, you have to admit there is some logic in what he is saying. The anger was real and it was widespread across the country. But I am curious to know from my fellow NaijaHub members: do you believe the naira redesign alone was responsible for Obi defeating Tinubu in Lagos, or were there deeper issues at play within the APC that made that outcome inevitable?
