Cash outside banks drops by N485bn , we are finally trusting the banks again?

So CBN just drop their Money and Credit Statistics and I dey shake small. Cash outside banks don hit N4.92 trillion in June 2026, that's the lowest level in seven months. They say it dropped by nearly N486 billion in the first half of the year. This means we are finally putting our money back inside the banking system instead of keeping it under our mattresses or inside Ghana-must-go bags.

Remember during the cash scarcity days when we were all carrying bundles of naira everywhere? Now the share of cash held outside banks is 89.11%, while inside banks rose to 10.89%. The CBN is pushing for digital payments and financial transparency, and it seems to be working slowly. Even for us NYSC people, we are using transfers more than cash for our allowances.

But I still wonder , is this because people trust the banks again, or because there is no cash to hold outside? Because with this economy, I still see long queues at POS points in Maiduguri. Abeg make una tell me, una still dey keep cash at home or una don surrender to digital life?
