Colonel Gunned Down in Abuja While Resisting Kidnappers

BREAKING: A Nigerian Army colonel was shot dead yesterday in Abuja while trying to resist kidnappers who attempted to abduct him. The officer, identified as Colonel T. A. Garba, was attacked along the Kubwa-Zuba expressway around 8pm. According to a police report, the colonel was driving alone when armed men blocked his vehicle and demanded he come with them.

He refused to comply and attempted to drive away, at which point the kidnappers opened fire. He died on the spot. This is the second senior military officer killed in the FCT in the last three months. The police say they have launched a manhunt for the suspects, but as usual, no arrests have been made.

What is happening to this country when a serving colonel cannot drive through Abuja without being killed? If the military themselves are not safe, what hope do ordinary Nigerians have? I am tired of these daily reports of insecurity. When will the government take this seriously?
