Japa is overhyped, staying in Nigeria and grinding is the real flex
3 months ago
My younger brother just landed in Canada and he dey send me video of him shovelling snow at 6am for minus 20 degrees. Meanwhile I wake up, drink my garri, and walk to the court in Ikeja. By 2pm I don finish my work, I dey enjoy my afternoon nap. Who get the better life now?
See ehn, I know the economy is tough. But every week I see young lawyers coming to my chambers crying because their japa plans backfired. They sold their father's land, borrowed money, only to land abroad and start doing jobs they are overqualified for. Meanwhile the ones wey stay here and hustle proper, some of them don buy cars and build houses within five years.
I am not saying japa is bad for everybody, but the way we dey glorify leaving Nigeria like na the only option. My friend's daughter went to UK, after two years she still dey share apartment with five people. She dey send money home but she no fit even come back for Christmas. Na wa oh. Which life you think sweet pass: your own country where you be somebody, or another man's country where you be nobody?
