SAN tells judge to resign after Appeal Court ruling
3 months ago
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oba Maduabuchi, has publicly told Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court to resign. This is after the Court of Appeal ruled on Tuesday that Justice Lifu's judgment directing INEC to deregister ADC and four other parties was vacated. The Appeal Court panel said the judge disobeyed their order to stay proceedings and called his action 'judicial impertinence' and 'rascality'. Maduabuchi said on Arise News that the judiciary has left its job and is now deep in partisan politics.
I have been watching this whole ADC saga from Wuse and honestly it is depressing. When a senior lawyer with nearly half a century of experience says he is worried about what his lawyer sons will meet in five years, we should all be worried. Maduabuchi asked how a judge can be told by a higher court that he is unfit for the bench and still walk into court the next day to deliver rulings. That question deserves an answer. If the judiciary cannot police itself, what hope do ordinary Nigerians have?
