Gunmen attacked Naridon village in Kauru local government area of Kaduna State around midnight on Monday, killing at least 30 people including seven children, according to community members and a Catholic priest on the ground.

Governor Uba Sani condemned the attack in a statement issued by Information Commissioner Ahmed Maiyaki, saying he received the news "with deep sorrow" and has directed security agencies to intensify operations and KADSEMA to provide relief. But as of Tuesday, no government official has visited the community.

Fr Mark Bisan, Parish Priest of St Monica Catholic Church, Ikulu Pari, which serves St Kizito Outstation Naridon, told BBC Pidgin the attackers were Fulani who kicked down doors and killed people while they slept. He said an army checkpoint was close by but troops did not arrive until 7am despite phone calls. One family lost five children. Fr Bisan said this is the third attack on his parish this year alone, and he has buried nine parishioners just last month.
