Japa is overrated, stay and build Nigeria with me

I was scrolling through Twitter and saw the news about the US stopping visa processing at the Abuja embassy. My DMs started flooding with people asking if I still want to japa. Like seriously, the dream is real for many of us but I dey think say we are running from the wrong things.

Every day I see my mates calculating how many dollars they need to survive abroad. But nobody talks about the loneliness, the cold, the fact that you will be a second-class citizen there. Meanwhile here in Enugu, I can buy fresh okpa for 200 naira, my people dey around me, and I am learning skills that can actually solve Nigerian problems. The problem is not Nigeria, the problem is bad leadership and lack of systems. But if every smart person leaves, who will fix the system?

I am not saying japa is bad o. But maybe we should think twice before we abandon our own country. Who else will build the Nigeria we dream of? Are we really escaping or just postponing the struggle?
