Jollof rice war is over , Ghana won and we need to accept it
3 months ago
I know say this one go make some people vex but I don tire. We keep claiming we get the best jollof but every time I go party or event, the rice is either burnt, too dry, or they put too much tomato paste. Meanwhile my Ghanaian colleague brought party jollof to work last week and I nearly cried. The rice was fluffy, the seasoning was balanced, and the pepper was there but not killing person.
See ehn, I have eaten jollof from every corner of this country. From Lagos to Kano to Port Harcourt. Some are good but most are average. We rely on the name Nigeria too much. We think because we are bigger, we must be better. But the evidence is right there on the plate. Ghanaian jollof has consistency. Ours is a gamble. You might get a good one or you might get something that tastes like tomato stew poured on plain rice.
Before una start quoting Fela or Burna Boy at me, tell me the last time you ate truly excellent Nigerian jollof that was not made by your mother or a special caterer. I dey wait.
