Osun SSG released after vote buying arrest — what is really happening?
The Osun State Police Command has released the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, from custody this afternoon. He was arrested along with five others for alleged vote-buying offences, with the police recovering Permanent Voter's Cards, cash sums, and a voters' register from his house.
The other suspects include Abiodun Arowomole, known as Ashipa, who the police describe as a wanted murder suspect on their watch list. The command's spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the release but said the investigation is still ongoing.
Now, what does it mean when a top government official is picked up for election fraud and released the same day? The police are saying the investigation continues, but the optics are troubling. This is the same state where elections have been anything but free and fair. If you are in Osun or following politics there, what do you make of this development?
