I Got an STI at 26 and Treated It in Secret. My Fiancée Still Thinks It Was Malaria.

Back in 2021, I was 26, working as a sales rep in Benin City, and I had a fiancée I loved. But I also had a side thing with a woman I met at a hotel bar after a business meeting. We were together for about three months before I started feeling the symptoms. It started as a burning sensation when I peed, then this strange discharge. I knew immediately what it was. I was too ashamed to go to a proper hospital, so I went to a small chemist shop on Uselu Road. The pharmacist, an old man, gave me antibiotics and injections without asking too many questions. He collected 12,000 naira from me, which was almost half my salary then. I told my fiancée I had malaria and typhoid, and she even cooked for me and prayed over me. I took the drugs in secret, hiding the bottles inside my wardrobe. The treatment worked, but the guilt didn't. I ended the side thing and told the woman I was getting married. She didn't even care, she just moved on. But every time my fiancée says 'I love you,' I remember those injections and the lies. I still get scared sometimes when I feel any small pain down there. Omo, the lesson is simple: no woman, no matter how sweet, is worth your health or your peace of mind. And if you ever find yourself in that situation, please go to a proper doctor. The shame you feel is nothing compared to the weight of carrying that secret into your marriage. I am still not sure I did the right thing, but I know one thing for sure: I will never put myself in that position again.
