Tinubu Says Hunger Existed Before Him, Peter Obi Fires Back

Peter Obi has publicly faulted President Bola Tinubu over his remark that hunger existed in Nigeria before he was born, and honestly, the exchange is exactly the kind of political theatre that gets on my nerves. Obi reportedly said millions more Nigerians are now poorer under this administration, and while some people will call that propaganda, I think he is simply stating what market women in Mile 12 and traders in Onitsha Main Market already know.

Let me be clear, I am not a card-carrying supporter of any politician, but when a president tells hungry citizens that hunger is not his invention, it does not answer the question of why garri now costs what a bag of rice used to cost. Peter Obi did not invent poverty either, but he is right that the trajectory under this government has pushed more people below the poverty line, and that is a factual observation, not a political attack.

Some of you will say Obi is just positioning for 2027, and maybe he is, but that does not make the numbers lie. The real question is whether we as Nigerians are tired of leaders who give us historical context instead of food on the table. Be honest, does it even matter who is right when the price of yam is what it is today?
