Presidency mocks Peter Obi over poverty comments, says he talks like he has a magic wand
3 months ago
The Presidency has taken a swipe at Peter Obi over his constant comments on poverty in Nigeria. Temitope Ajayi, President Tinubu's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, posted on X yesterday that Obi talks about poverty as if he has a magic wand to make it disappear and turn everyone into millionaires.
Ajayi also dragged Obi's record as Anambra governor, insisting poverty ballooned in the state under his eight years in office. He wrote, "With the way Mr Peter Obi talks about poverty everyday and makes it a sing-song, one would think he banished poverty in Anambra State for the 8 years he was governor. The paradox is that poverty rate ballooned under him in Anambra and went all time higher than any previous governors of the state." He added, "Let's sha make him President and see poverty disappears and everyone becomes a millionaire."
This comes after Obi lamented that poverty and hunger have reached alarming levels, saying you don't need World Bank reports to see it in the villages. He said about 70 million Nigerians are facing acute hunger. Now, the question is this: is it fair to judge Obi's current message by his past record in Anambra, or is the Presidency just avoiding the real issue of what is happening in Nigeria today? Be honest.
