🎖️CorporalThe day I realised hard work alone no longer pays in Nigeria

Two years ago, I was the top student in my department. 300 level, Economics, UNN. I had the grades, the recommendations, everything. There was this scholarship to study in Canada, fully funded. I no go lie, I started packing my life for that one. My mother was already telling our neighbours, my father was quietly smiling every time he looked at me.Then the shortlist came out. My name wasn't on it. Instead, they gave it to a guy we all know cannot spell 'microeconomics'. His father is a big man in Abuja, and na him arrange everything. I kept quiet. I couldn't even talk to my parents when they called. I just sat in the hostel, staring at the ceiling. For weeks I was angry. I asked God many questions. But then I started learning new skills online. Data analysis, digital marketing, anything I could find. I told myself, if they can collect the scholarship, they cannot collect my hunger to learn.Today, I still dey UNN, but I have clients who pay me for work I learned on the internet. That scholarship would have been sweet, but I'm building something they cannot take from me. Hard work alone no longer pays in Nigeria, you need strategy too. God when? But we move. 💪
